WWII Poster Assignment

The poster I chose for the assignment is " Waste Helps The Enemy". I chose this poster because I feel it has a lot of meaning to it. The intense red color brings attention to the poster itself. The text is not very big, but the words "CONSERVE MATERIAL" stand out more than the other ones. I believe this is so because that's what the poster's message is. Why do they want to concerve material? Because, according to the poster, it is helping the enemy. It may be trash to the people disposing of it, but for others (like the enemy) it can help build a weapon or have other uses for it.
What I liked the most about this poster was how the "waste" was set up to look like. On the poster we see a paper, a paper clip, a piece of tape and many other office materials shaped like the face of Adolph Hitler. I believe its a great way to represent how the "waste" helps out the "enemy". It shows how the "waste" can build the "enemy". Also, Hitlers face is not smiling. Its actually an angry face, perhaps saying "im evil". This must have been set up to intimidate the reader to try and concerve waste.

  1. Samantha-
This is a great reading of this poster. I love your description of the use of Hitler's face. In this case they are using Hitler as a commonplace or shorthand to stand in for the entire opposing force of soldiers. Red was a popular color in these sorts of poster because, as you suggested, it grabs the attention. It is also the color of danger and tells people to stop and be alert.
    Great analysis-
